When You Wish Upon a Star
When You Wish Upon a Star
Writer: Leigh Harline . Lyrics: Ned Washington
Singer: Johnny Mathis
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dreams
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing!
Like a boat out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dream comes true
Like a boat out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

the late Mr Wee Kim Wee

WEE KIM WEE: Glimpses and Reflections
Mind you, this is not an autobiography of our late Former President - Mr Wee. But a very candid and simple book of stories of his own encounters in life. He talked about issues that we are constantly facing even up to this very day. Things that had bothered him and things that had brought him joy and fond memories. Reading the book is like hearing from a wise old grandpa telling you that these are part and parcel of life that you will face eventually.
He is a man from a humble background, but have worked his way to presidency, winning everyone's heart and admiration for him. I'm sure his children and grandchildren are very proud of him too...
I can never forget talking to him face to face during my scholarship interview. He looked frailed yet his presence was so strong.
He had lived his life to the fullest. Now, let us learn from him and strive to be wiser...

Halloween Camp

:) So Fun!
The campers are fun, the trainers are crazy... the campfire was outrageously enjoyable despite the sudden heavy downpour! All the trainers rushed down to the canteen and like with a swing of the wond; we've shifted all the tables and chairs to the sides and ready for the campfire to commence there... Amazing...
My group name was Fairies. And so I got fairy wings, halo and wonds as props. The guy attached to me for On-Job-Training was Aaron - who had just came back from Canberra, Australia. A very observant person and very quick learner... Think he's got all it takes to lead a group on his own anytime..
Anyway, the reason why i mentioned him here was this: I got him a pair of wings too and everyone says that he looked gay! LOL. But the wings really looked good on him. Good thing was, he was sporting enough the wear it throughout the entire campfire and even danced around with it with the other trainers...
Let's hope that we will keep in touch.

Did You Ever Talk to God Above
Did you ever talk to God above
Tell Him that you need a friend, to love
Pray in Jesus' name believing that
God answers prayers
Have you told Him all your cares, and woes
Every tiny little fear, He knows
You can know He'll always hear and
He, will answer prayers
You can whisper in the crowd to Him
You can cry when you're alone to Him
You don't have to pray out loud to him
He knows your thoughts
On a lofty mountian peak, He's there
In a meadow by a stream, He's there
Anywhere on earth you go
He's been there from the start...

sharing

Went to Semakau today and learnt a whole lot of stuff from Joseph. Go check out his
website. A poetic botanist.
The walk with him has been truly fruitful, as he made the information of the plants into very digestable bits. Think that is what I hope achieve as a guide too. To make the world of nature closer and easier to understand. The only way that one can get to appreciate Nature deeper, is to have someone to lead you in. Into the world of mystery and history...
Sharing is the way to go.
More mugging to do now...
Fruit of Sonnoratia Alba aka perepat tree (Malay)-
Growing up to 15m tall, this tree are usually found at the outter perimeter of a mangrove. Beautiful white flowers open only for one evening and are pollinated by bats. Flowers are usually already spent in the morning. Leaves may be eaten raw or cooked. The ripe fruits are eaten by Africans, Malays and Javanese. Rumored that it taste like cheese. In Eastern Africa the leaves are used a camel fodder. Not the best option if you're looking for firewood as it produces a lot of heat, but with a lot of ash and salt.

oh my sole

Took up rock climbing level one under the outdoor company.
Raymond is our instructor. Well, I heard lots about him and his travels everywhere and now, having the know him personally, it's a previledge.
We did the course at DFAC and boy, that wall is tough! After Raymond had shown us some climbing techniques, we tried it on our own and indeed it was easier (or at least less straining). But I still couldn't get pass the fifth panel. Augh! too short? I don't know.. But I'll attempt to try again if I have the chance.
You should try to get the appropriate shoes for the activity, it will make a difference in your performance. Anyway, what's climbing without climbing shoes?
Well, I wore my old basketball shoes there as the sole is thinner. But you know what? After I left DFAC to meet M, the soles came flaking off... So much for my S$100 per side basketball shoes... :O)

a quick dip

It's has been almost a year since I last went on a leisure dive trip.
So after much persuation from Yong, we went to Aur with
wetworks scuba for a quick weekend getaway.
From bottom left: Michele, William (Inst.), Roslind, Me, Yong, Caleb and behind, Ben, Jason (Inst.)... And Fynn (DM), who is not in the picture, had went back to chill out on the island instead.
With William teaching the advance ladies, Jason and Fynn teaching the open water boys, we, the leisure divers were left to dive on our own... :-D
The dives are pretty good.

Visibility was from ~50ft - 30ft, ~10ft night-time, there's just lots to see...
Day one seems to be the best dive day for us. Spotting at least 5 nudibranches, huge yellowfin trevalley, turtle, pufferfish, baby yellow boxfish, tons of shrimps, filefish, baby sweetlips, batfish, rabbit fishes, a school of baby barracudas and lots more! With no one stirring up the silt and wracking everything, Yong and I had a great time drifting and looking around.
I went down with a dummy camera that I got for my birthday and tried taking some shots. Silly me only used it on the third dive - that's in the evening when the sun is about to knock-off! Augh... So I didn't really do a good job

of taking some nice shots to present to the one that gave me the camera. Anyway, I can't really focus on small stuff and there's no flash on the unit, so I ended up with lots of blurred shots. But I really like the picture of Yong doing the gigantic giant strike - leaping off the boat in style...
Day two was "challenging" as we reach 105ft on our first dive that day. Hit the ceiling, and went up to do a hang dive (safty stop), but Yong had forgotten to release his "lazy chain" on his DSMB and went up to the surface. Being a very good buddy, I was trying to pull him down but, alas, I was lifted up instead. So after abit of struggle, as our DSMBs began to entangle together, we went down to do our safty stop again and managed to silent off the

screaming dive computer...
I suppose what made the trip enjoyable, was really the company of people that I went with. Ros was crazy over the sport. I bet that she was the one that got Caleb and Ben into this. And my goodness, they are only a couple of years older the my Bro... Am I really that old already? Jason, Fynn and William seem to make a very good team. With each having their own specialty and unique character, they have indefinatley striked a cord amongst us and made us all feel at ease travelling with them. Michele, well, I felt that she wasn't really with the group, but I don't really blame her, afterall, it can be tough going on a trip with an ex-boyfriend...

Along the way home, the mini bus driver got into a tiny accident. It was cold and drizzling... And so, we went to a nearby coffeeshop and ate prata, mutton soup, otah and milk tea instead while waiting for the two parties to settle their issue. The delay had cost us a sumptuous seafood dinner. However, the prata and mutton soup were cheap and good. Then again, any warm food served on a cold day is good food! Ahhh...
So... All in all, it had been a great weekend.
The dip was too short, but it will do for now...
[Special thanks to Ros & Michele for the photos]

Kudoos to all my crazy diving friends out there! :O)

help...
Anyone wants to hire me?
Or suggest some kindda job that will suit me.
Someone who can't and refuses to take an office-bound job? REALLY, I'll wither and die there! Even the career tests I took says so as well!
Think it is about time that I find something more stable in order to facilitate my ever growing hunger for greater knowledge, and big adventures...
The road ahead looks gloomy...
By the way, anyone knows why do I get patches of white on the darker images that I upload?

Tough lesson to learn...

Was at the guide lessons...
Man, there's soooo much that I do not know.
Those three hours seems like six hours! ..
Not only do we have to know about the coral reefs, we need to know about the islands, the common birds, the trees and the mangroves too.
Need to do more reading, and more research. If I can find the time to... Augh..
